BendPak XPR-10AS Review: Professional-Grade Asymmetric 2-Post Lift
The BendPak XPR-10AS is a 10,000 lb asymmetric clear-floor 2-post lift with ALI/ETL certification and BendPak's dual-synchro equalization, priced around $4,035. That is close to double the cost of an APlusLift HW-9KOH, so this review sets out what the extra money buys, the ceiling and power it needs, and who is better off with a cheaper lift.

What the XPR-10AS is built for
The XPR-10AS is BendPak's asymmetric 10,000 lb 2-post, and asymmetric is the point of it. The columns are rotated about 30 degrees and the front arms are shorter than the rears, so the vehicle sits back in the bay and the doors swing open without hitting a post. For anyone doing interior, dash or seat work with the car in the air, that layout is the difference between a lift that helps and a lift that gets in the way.
BendPak positions it at small professional shops and serious home garages, and the spec sheet reads that way. It is ALI/ETL certified, it uses the dual-synchro cable equalization BendPak puts on its commercial lifts, and it carries a lifetime frame warranty with one year on parts. At around $4,035 it costs roughly what two budget imports cost, so the question is not whether it is a good lift but whether a given garage needs this much lift.
Capacity, dimensions and garage fit
The numbers that decide whether it fits: 10,000 lb capacity, 137 in overall width, 143 in overall height and 73 in of rise. BendPak's stated minimum ceiling is 11 ft 6 in, and that is the honest figure, not a marketing one, because the overhead beam and the cable cross-over sit at the top of the columns and the shut-off bar needs room above it. A garage with a 10 ft ceiling is not a candidate for this lift; look at the floor-plate APlusLift HW-10KBP instead.
73 in of rise puts a full-size truck frame at a comfortable standing height for a 6 ft mechanic, and the 10,000 lb rating covers a crew-cab F-250 or a Ram 2500 with margin. The 137 in overall width is wider than most 9,000 lb imports, which matters in a two-car garage where the second bay still has to hold a car. Measure the bay wall to wall, and remember the columns need clearance on the outside for the power unit and for the arms to swing.

Installation and power requirements
BendPak calls for a minimum 4 in slab of 3,000 psi concrete, and its manual specifies the anchor bolt torque and the maximum shim height under each column. Older garage slabs are often thinner than 4 in at the edges and thicker in the middle, so a core test or a drilled pilot hole is worth doing before the freight arrives. The lift ships on a pallet near 1,800 lb, and the columns are the heavy pieces; a forklift, an engine hoist or four adults with a plan are the realistic options for standing them up.
Power is 220V single phase. There is no 110V version of the XPR-10AS, so a garage with only a 15A outlet needs an electrician before it needs a lift. BendPak's installation manual is longer and clearer than most in this class, which is part of why the brand costs more, but this is still a full weekend for two capable people, and BendPak dealers will quote a professional install for buyers who would rather not.
Safety features and certification
The ALI/ETL certification is the feature that separates this lift from most of what is sold on Amazon. It means the design was tested by a third party against the ANSI/ALI ALCTV standard and that the specific model is listed in the ALI directory. For a commercial shop it is a requirement for most insurance carriers and for OSHA compliance; for a home garage it is simply evidence that the lift was tested rather than declared safe.
Beyond the sticker, the XPR-10AS has multi-position mechanical safety locks in each column, automatic arm restraints that engage as the arms take load, and a single-point lock release, so lowering the lift does not mean walking around to pull two handles. The dual-synchro equalization uses two cables to keep the carriages level even when the load is far off center, which is the normal condition on an asymmetric lift with the vehicle set back in the bay.
How it compares to the APlusLift HW-9KOH and Atlas 9KOHX
The APlusLift HW-9KOH is the obvious cheaper alternative at about $2,199: 9,000 lb, symmetric, CE certified, with a 3-year warranty. It lifts the same vehicles a home mechanic actually owns, it is the most-reviewed 2-post on Amazon, and it is not ALI certified. The Atlas 9KOHX at around $2,399 is a similar proposition with extra-wide columns and a 1-year warranty. Neither offers asymmetric arms or dual-synchro equalization.
So the roughly $1,600 to $1,800 premium for the BendPak buys four things: 1,000 lb of extra capacity, asymmetric door clearance, the ALI listing, and a parts and dealer network that will still exist in a decade. Owner reviews on Amazon for the XPR-10AS are fewer than for the imports but consistent that the columns arrive straight and the hydraulics hold. We think the premium is worth it for anyone who lifts customer cars; we do not think it is worth it for the paint or the badge.
Who should buy it (and who shouldn't)
Buy the XPR-10AS if any of the following are true: the garage will earn money, the lift will regularly carry a 3/4-ton truck, interior work with the doors open is a common job, or the ceiling is at least 11 ft 6 in and the budget can absorb about $4,000 plus freight. It is also the right choice for a buyer who wants the lift to be the last one they purchase, because BendPak still stocks parts for lifts it sold twenty years ago.
Skip it if the ceiling is under 11 ft 6 in, if there is no 220V service and running it is not in the budget, or if the fleet is a couple of sedans and a crossover. In that garage a 9,000 lb symmetric lift is not a compromise, and the money saved is real. Skip it as well if resale or moving is likely in a few years; a BendPak holds value, but a $2,199 lift left behind in a sold house hurts less.
Final Verdict
Overall Rating
The XPR-10AS is the 2-post we recommend when the lift will see paying work or valuable cars, because the ALI/ETL certification, the dual-synchro equalization and BendPak's parts network are the three things budget imports cannot match, and they are the things that matter when a lift is ten years old. It needs 11 ft 6 in of ceiling, 220V and a 4 in slab, and it will cost around $4,035 before freight and installation. A hobbyist lifting one daily driver a few weekends a year does not need any of that; the APlusLift HW-9KOH does the same job for about $2,199, and we would rather see that buyer spend the difference on a transmission jack and a good set of stands.
