Triumph NSP-6S Review: Compact 6,000-lb Parking Lift for Tight Garages

Triumph is an import lift brand sold through online equipment dealers, and the NSP-6S is its entry parking lift. The spec sheet reads like the Forward FPL-6 or Challenger CP-6000 with every dimension trimmed: 100 in by 92 in platform against their 104 by 94, 80 in of drive-on width against 82, an 11 ft ceiling requirement against 11 ft 4 in, 1,850 lb of steel against 1,900 to 1,950. Capacity is the same 6,000 lb. Price is around $3,299, between the Challenger at $3,199 and the Forward at $3,499.

The smaller platform is a feature in one situation and a limit in every other. In a single-car garage that is 10 or 11 ft wide, the 92 in platform plus columns leaves a walkway that the 94 in decks do not, and 4 in less ceiling is the difference between a lift and no lift in many older houses.

Everywhere else the trim shows. An 80 in deck takes a Camry at 72 in or a Miata at 68 in with room and a Grand Cherokee at 77 in with almost none.

The minimum ceiling is listed at 11 ft, or 132 in, with a 70 in rise. That leaves 62 in for the upper vehicle at the minimum ceiling before an opener or light fixture is subtracted. That is the tightest upper headroom of any full-rise lift in this group, and it rules out more than people expect. A Camry at 57 in fits with 5 in to spare. A Model 3 at 57 in fits. A Mustang at 54 in fits. A CR-V at 66 in does not, and neither does anything else with crossover proportions.

So the NSP-6S at an 11 ft ceiling is a two-car lift where the upper car is a sedan, coupe or sports car. With 11 ft 6 in of ceiling the headroom grows to 68 in and a compact crossover becomes possible on top, but at that ceiling the Forward FPL-6 and BendPak PL-6000 are in spec and offer more deck.

Below, the lowered height is 6.5 in, the lowest in the group, which makes the approach ramps gentle for a low car. The deck underside at full rise is about 63 in off the floor, enough for any car and most compact crossovers.

At 1,850 lb crated the NSP-6S is the lightest full-rise parking lift here, and that is why it is rated an easy install. The platform sections are small enough for two people to handle without a hoist, the columns are manageable, and a capable owner with two helpers can do it in a day. Triumph's manual is the weak point, with fewer photographs and less explanation than the BendPak or Challenger books, so a first-time installer should find a video of a similar lift going in before starting.

The sequence is the class standard: anchor the columns plumb into 4 in of 3,000 psi concrete, bolt the platform together on the floor, hang it on the carriages, run the hydraulic line, set the equalizer cables for level travel and confirm the locks engage on every rise.

Power is 220V single phase on a dedicated circuit, so an electrician is part of the bill. An owner install with hired wiring runs around $3,800 to $4,100 all in, which is the lowest project total in this group. A hired crew adds $600 to $800.

The NSP-6S holds a parked vehicle on automatic mechanical locks in both columns, engaged as the platform rises, so the stored car rests on steel and the hydraulics only work during travel. The hydraulic circuit has a check valve against pump failure, a flow control governing descent and a manual lowering valve for a power outage. Those are appropriate for a residential lift and they are the same features the Forward and Challenger lifts in this class use.

There is no ALI/ETL certification, which is normal at this price and is listed as a con for good reason. The 6,000 lb rating is Triumph's own figure and has not been verified by an independent lab to the ANSI/ALI ALCTV standard. The certified 6,000 lb option is the BendPak PL-6000 at around $3,899, $600 more, and it needs an 11 ft 6 in ceiling the NSP-6S buyer may not have.

The finish is a budget finish. Expect chipping at the deck edges and put touch-up paint on the yearly maintenance list with cable inspection, lock checks and anchor torque.

The Challenger CP-6000 is around $3,199, $100 less than the NSP-6S, with a 104 in by 94 in deck, 82 in of drive-on width, a 70 in rise and an 11 ft 4 in ceiling, from a Snap-on company with a dealer network. If your garage has 11 ft 4 in to the lowest obstruction, buy the Challenger. The Forward FPL-6 is around $3,499 with the same dimensions as the Challenger and Rotary's parts network behind it; the same logic applies.

The NSP-6S wins only when it is the only lift that fits, and that is a real and common situation: a 1960s or 1970s house with an 11 ft garage ceiling and a narrow bay. There it is the full-rise answer, with the BendPak PL-6SR at a 9 ft 6 in ceiling and a 56 in rise as the short-rise alternative for around $3,599.

Within Triumph's own line, the NSP-8 is the step up at around $4,299: 8,000 lb, a 114 in by 100 in deck, 88 in of drive-on width, a 74 in rise and a 12 ft ceiling. It is a different garage and a different household.
