Rotary RML-1500 Pro Moto Lift Review: Industrial Powerhouse for Serious Shops

Rotary Lift is the largest automotive lift manufacturer in North America and the brand most dealership service departments are built around. The RML-1500 Pro Moto is its heavy-duty motorcycle table, above the foot-pump RML-1000. Published specs: a 1,500 lb capacity, a 52 by 24 inch industrial-grade steel deck with an anti-skid surface, an air-hydraulic pump requiring 90 PSI minimum, a 7 to 36 inch height range, dual lock bars with a hydraulic check valve, 240 lb assembled weight and a two-year limited warranty.

Price is around $729. That puts it $30 above the Challenger CML-1500, $20 below the Dannmar DML-1500HD, $130 above the Triumph NML-1500 and $170 below the BendPak ML-1500 Pro. It is in the middle of the air-hydraulic group in every way but one: Rotary's dealer and service network is larger than all of the others combined.

The RML-1000 review on this site said the same thing about the smaller table, and the argument is stronger here because the RML-1500 does not have a capacity problem. It has the right rating, the right pump and the right locks, and the question is only whether the Rotary premium is worth paying over the Challenger.

A 1,500 lb rating is comfortable to about 1,000 lb of bike and covers every two-wheeled production motorcycle, including full-dress baggers at 850 to 950 lb. Trikes at 1,200 lb are inside the rating but at 80 percent of it and should be on the BendPak ML-2000.

The 52 by 24 inch deck is the same size as the Triumph NML-1500 and Greg Smith GS-ML1500 decks, 2 inches shorter and 1 inch narrower than the Challenger, and 4 inches shorter and 2 narrower than the BendPak. A 64 inch wheelbase bagger has its rear contact patch about 8 inches inside the deck end with the front wheel chocked, which covers most service work. Bikes over about 66 inches of wheelbase belong on the Atlas AML-1500XL's 60 inch deck.

The 7 to 36 inch range matches the Triumph and Dannmar. Seven inches makes roll-on loading easy with a low cruiser; 36 inches puts a bagger's rocker boxes at chest height for a rider around six feet, with a dressed touring bike's windshield near 8 feet at full rise.

The pump needs 90 PSI and a compressor that holds it under load. A 20 to 30 gallon tank is the practical minimum; a pancake compressor works in bursts. In a shop that already runs air tools, this is a non-issue. In a home garage without a compressor, add $150 to $300 plus an inline filter and oiler, and drain the tank regularly to keep water out of the air motor. The check valve holds cylinder pressure if the air supply drops, so a compressor tripping mid-lift leaves the deck where it is.

At 240 lb the RML-1500 is a two-person build of about 2.5 hours; the installation rating on this page is marked difficult, and the two lock bars need adjustment so both seat at the same stop. Rotary dealers offer installation, which for a shop with a service contract is the practical route.

Placement is permanent. The table sits on level concrete with a footprint of about 4.5 by 2 feet plus working room on three sides and does not bolt down. Level is what keeps a 240 lb base stable under a 900 lb bike.

The RML-1500 has two lock bars, one each side of the scissor frame, a hydraulic check valve and an anti-skid deck surface. The lock bars engage stops as the deck rises and carry the load once the release is opened; two bars mean a mis-seat on one side still leaves the deck supported. The check valve holds pressure if a seal or hose fails.

The anti-skid deck is the feature the other air-hydraulic tables do not have. Rather than a bare textured plate or a rubber mat that wears through, the deck is finished with a grit coating carried over from Rotary's automotive runways. Most table incidents happen during loading, when a tire slips on a smooth deck with the bike half on; a grit surface addresses that directly and does not need replacing.

Rotary does not list ALI certification for the RML-1500. Rotary's automotive lifts are ALI certified almost without exception, so the absence is a category fact: ALI's program covers automotive lifts and no motorcycle table in this group carries it. The two-year warranty matches Triumph and Dannmar and trails the three years on the Challenger and BendPak, which is the RML-1500's one clear deficit against its nearest rival.

The Challenger CML-1500 at around $699: 1,500 lb, a 54 by 25 inch deck, 7 to 37 inches, air-hydraulic, one lock bar with a check valve and tie-down points, 245 lb, three-year warranty. For $30 less it has 2 inches more deck length, 1 inch more width and rise, and a year more warranty, with one lock bar instead of two and a plain deck. On the sheet the Challenger wins unless the second lock or the anti-skid surface is decisive.

The Dannmar DML-1500HD at around $749: 1,500 lb, a 52 by 25 inch deck, 7 to 36 inches, air-hydraulic, dual locks with a check valve and tie-downs, 235 lb, two-year warranty. For $20 more it is nearly identical: same length, 1 inch more width, the same locks and warranty, tie-downs, a plain deck. The Rotary's anti-skid surface against the Dannmar's tie-down points and inch of width is a coin flip, and the network decides it.

The Rotary RML-1000 at around $549 is the foot-pump sibling: 1,000 lb, 48 by 22 inches, one lock bar. For bikes over 650 lb it is not an option, which is why the RML-1500 exists.

Buy the RML-1500 Pro Moto if the table is going into a shop that runs Rotary automotive lifts and wants one dealer, one service schedule and one parts source for all of it, or if the anti-skid deck and two lock bars are worth $30 over the Challenger to a rider who loads heavy bikes alone. In a commercial bay the network is the product, and Rotary's is the largest there is.

Skip it for a home garage choosing on specifications. The Challenger CML-1500 at $30 less has a bigger deck and a longer warranty, the Triumph NML-1500 at $130 less does the same lifting on the same deck size with one lock, and the Dannmar DML-1500HD is the same table with tie-downs instead of grit. Skip it for trikes, which need the ML-2000.

Our recommendation is that the RML-1500 is a shop table with a shop-sized reason to buy it, and a home buyer without a Rotary relationship should take the Challenger.
